My computer died just now, so I’m pretty screwed music-wise. I’ll try to keep posting, but probably not every day. (Also, I won’t be able to read my emails ’till I fix my PC.) Hopefully everything will return to normal some time next week.

Joe’s being awesome again (see above), I totally did not see this coming. As said in the description, you can get the “background track” here, find more SALM remixes below, also their album on iTunes.

Alphabet Pony mailed me his latest creation, the vocal takes its time as usual but it’s a gem nonetheless.

Amazing single by Freestylers, Ctrl-Z’s remix wins by a hair compared to Flux Pavillion’s. Buy here. (Props to Jack for bringing it to my attention.)

I’m not particularly fan of the vocals (even though it’s a classic), but Specimen A knows how to make something right.

How Uffie should actually sound like.. but Dev + Dillon Francis does the trick instead, the strongest track from the single without a doubt.

Saved Hostage’s heavy hitter for last, it’s a shame it can’t be bought and/or downloaded anywhere. Still doesn’t beat this though.

Review: Error Operator’s “Mistakes”

Like1Dislike0

As you’ve probably already noticed, I’m a “man of a few words”, and I’ll be keeping this short as well. Error Operator is no stranger to the blog: mostly because his remixes are solid and he doesn’t hesitate to send me them — which is also true for his debut album “Mistakes”, released today.

The album is made up by eleven tracks, three of them use “unique” vocals, while the rest features vocal samples of all kinds with a few exceptions. These two categories are easily distinguishable, so I’ll talk about them separately.

I’d call the songs with samples a collection of memories, rather than an album. They tell stories how an aged man would reminiscence about his past — so good actually that you feel like you live through what you hear. Classical instruments like piano and violin are also a vital part of the music besides the electronic beat, their synergy with the vocals is flawless.

The tracks featuring exclusive vocals seem to lack aim however. Two of the three songs (“Broken” feat. Jane Elizabeth Hanley and “July” feat. Bright Light Bright Light) have too soft vocals compared to the rest’s grand feel, while “Powerlines” is trying at bringing rap and Error Operator’s style together with Grizzle Emcee; neither of them seem to fit the album completely.

I won’t be giving out scores — music speaks for itself. If you like what you hear buy it, if not then don’t. The song I chose from the album is “Mistakes Mk3″, featuring Dwight D. Eisenhower’s broadcast speech made on the D-Day. The latter is going to be released as a single, so I changed it to “Miller”, where you can hear Henry Miller’s dark musings about New York, then and now.

Sunday Chillin’ #29

“This Space” is Röyksopp’s TOTM for August, “New Theory” is from Washed Out’s album Life of Leisure (suggested by Kristaps).

Headless Horseman was kind enough to give out “Handstands” for Sunday Chillin’ only, making it the very first exclusive here on the blog.

It consists of dreamy ambient sounds, floaty vocals and a lo-fi sample of The Chordettes’ “Mr. Sandman”, a perfect song overall. Support them by buying their “5songs” EP over at Bandcamp.

I tend to post indie-electro songs from time to time, now for a change here’s a “just indie” band, Satellite Stories. If you happen to be from Finland, look for their promo EP at their next gig in Oulu, this Friday.
