Japanese label KSR is giving out Crystal Fighters “At Home” remixes one-by-one, in anticipation of the album’s release overseas. There are still four more to go, but this groovy one by Kido Yoji is already a favorite. Keep an eye on this page, and props to Too Many Sebastians for the find!

So this is my “best of the year” list, entirely my opinions anyway :) Feel free to post yours if you disagree!

Album: Crystal Fighters – Star of Love

It’s got indie, it’s got electronic, it’s got dubstep, and much much more. The only two tracks I didn’t like are “I Do This Every Day” and “I Love London”, but 9 amazing songs out of 11 are more than enough to make this an obvious choice.

Honorable mention: Leno Lovecraft – Album #1

I decided not to make “Album #1″ the best album of the year only because currently there’s no way to buy, download or listen to it. (It was available for purchase for a quite limited time, I think I’m actually among the very very few who own the album.) Regardless, this guy (or girl) is a fucking genius, if anyone will surpass Daft Punk, that’ll be Leno Lovecraft.

Extended Play: Lemâitre – The Friendly Sound

Even though the songs were given out separately, I’ll go on and name this the best EP of the year, because it’s got five A+ songs that everyone needs to hear.

Song: Flight Facilities – Crave You

Flight Facilities came out of nowhere with “Crave You”, and it was a very pleasant surprise. The mellow yet lively beats paired with Giselle’s vocals made this an instant favorite for me.

Remix: Hans Zimmer – Time (We Plants Are Happy Plants Remix)

This remix of WPAHP received a lot of hype because the original is the soundtrack of the also hyped Inception, but I chose this in spite of that I’ve never seen the movie. The great use of momentum with electronic beats results in this a mind-blowing piece of music.

Video: FM Belfast – Underwear

I know I don’t really post videos, but FM Belfast’s Underwear, directed by Daniel Scheinert & Dan Kwan deserves another shout. Be warned, it is imperfect, very life-like. It is about being alone, and getting drunk alone.. but still, it is about accepting yourself the way you are, and the message is delivered perfectly.

Not a particularly eye-pleasing or beautiful picture, but I fancy thinking of it as a metaphor to ‘musigh’ — something among the rest, being there subtly, but you know it’s something different. Well, there goes my egoism for the year.
